Shaver Lake Property Reviews Reviewed by gina.smith6 We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin is very cozy, great for a small group or family. We walked to town for coffee, dinner, and shopping. We will stay here again. Reviewed by smooothjulee We had several friends that made the trip to celebrate my birthday. We originally were set up in a different cabin, but due to a city water leak we were moved to this cabin. This cabin has 4 bedrooms which is really nice, but the beds are sooo uncomfortable. The kitchen is really well stocked and overall the cleanliness of the cabin was good. The back deck is great with a decent view but the BBQ is trash!. Parking can be tight but managable. The cabin in a two minute walk to town (yeah!) We had a great stay and would use this cabin again. Reviewed by rwilliam2 The rental people and staff went out of there way to accommodate our stay. The house was clean, spacious, everything worked well. It had all the things we would have at home. I liked the location best along with the setting in the pines. The one inch of snow that came the evening of the last night we were there made a spectacular sunrise the next morning which was absolutely pristene. No downside to this stay at all.

Sue Arnod Reviewed by nancyramshaw We have been renting this unit for several years at Huntington Lake. It is nicely taken care of. The beds and furniture are comfortable and with 3 bedroom,3 bathrooms, a loft and a laundry it is convenient for everybody. Nice view off of the deck and large area for dining. The only drawback is that you must come up quite a large stairway making it a little bit of an effort when bring things into and out of the Condo. There are nice decks with a view of the lake. The Rental Company is cooperative and are good at taking care of any problems should you need them. All and all most of the units and this one are at Resort Pricing and a little bit pricey and if it were more affordable we would probably stay longer, our typical stay is from 4-6 days but still it is the best unit we have stayed in and we have been coming up to Huntington since the early 70's so we can state you won't go wrong renting this one! Reviewed by msfiorentino After being charged for a non-refundable cleaning fee, we found that there was old coffee left in the coffee pot, crumbs on the kitchen counter, and the toilet in one of the bathrooms was dirty. The shower pan in another bathroom was cracked and it was necessary to avoid stepping in that area to avoid scrapes. The rest of the unit was OK for a stay in the snow, but pretty rundown. Shaver Lake Vaction Rentals staff has always been cheerful and very helpful. Reviewed by jholty We recently stay at the Moody property and when you enter the house our first impression was that the pictures online definitely don't do the house justice. We quickly learned that there were many issues starting with the water heater which would only accomodated 2 quick showers within an hour to hour and a half time period. With 8 adults and few children needing to shower this was a big issue. The other major problem is that one side of the house lacks central heating and this is the side of the house that has the majority of the bedrooms. There is a wood burning stove that is meant to heat that side of the house but it was out of order and full of water. The rental agency brought out a few stationary heaters but we were unable to use them because every time we plugged them in it would blow the ciruit. The house had a leak in one of the bedrooms on the ceiling and the ceiling was noticeably wet and gooey!
The house is set up great and has a beautiful Kitchen..it was however dirty! The coffee pot was full of old coffee and grounds, there were dirty dishes in the cabinets and the ice machine was disgusting. When we went to use the the washing machine it was full of moldy towels and black mold on the sides of the washer.
If it weren't for these issues it would have been an awesome trip! The rental agency was awesome and really tried to rectify these issues the best they could. Unfortunately I think the issues were definitely owner issues!
We all agreed that if these issues were rectified we would stay in this house again!! Reviewed by randovno11 we enjoyed every second of it. it was beautiful and relaxing. would definately come back again.

However, the owner of this home needs to invest a little time and money into this gem of a property. First, there were rats in the home and they may be storing food in the king size bed upstairs, since what looked like dog kibble was falling from the box spring. Also, too many closets are locked and unavailable for guest use. Although I like stoneware, the heavy stoneware plates seem a little prehistoric for daily use, I elected to use paper plates for the most part. The freezer was not freezing well. The pocket door in the lower bathroom is broken and doesn't close all the way and if it does, you may have to worry that you cannot get out, since it may not open. Additionally, having the security cameras and computer/modem on all the time is a little creepy; keeps you wondering who is watching you during your stay.
BUT...on the brighter side, I loved the creek, the quite, the privacy, the location and the size of the unit. Reviewed by barbii1021 Service from Shaver Lake Vacation Rental staff was excellent! They were friendly, helpful and helped me find a cabin with the amenities I was looking for. The Finley cabin was perfect for us. There were 6 of us, four adults, two teenagers. The cabin is spacious with a well layed out floor plan. Loved the open floor plan, floor to ceiling windows and wood floors. And of course, the warm fireplace. The teenagers could escape upstairs to the game room or loft area for privacy. This allowed the adults to have space downstairs without the teenagers :) A BIG plus!! Location was just a few short miles to town, which was convienent if you needed to run to the store,(and we did). It took 30 mins or less to get to Sierra Summit. My only complaints would be that basic kitchen supplies be provided, such as foil and plastic wrap and a few of the doors are squeaky and need WD40. Sincerely, Your Shaver Lake Vacation Rentals Staff Reviewed by scharton This is one of the best rentals we have stayed in. The home was in good shape and very clean. We were in there at full capacity of 16 people.
The main drawback in its configuration is that the mid-level family room and eating area aren't quite large enough to accommodate the number of people that it sleeps.
While we did have fun using the ping-pong table, that bottom area would be better served as a second living area perhaps with a TV and sectional couch.
Overall, I still would recommend this unit, just know you will be crowded in the common area at full capacity.
This unit also has the advantage of being at the end of the complex so we had no trouble parking 5 cars - 2 in the garage and 3 outside. What I liked best was that the total package was exactly as advertised. Not luxury but certainly

the picture shows 4 parking stalls. when we arrived to the rental, there was only access to 2 of the stalls. i called the office and they said the owners only contracted to plow 2 and that we can park behind each other. you can see by the pictures that the approach to the parking stalls is uphill and alot of dirt.
here's the problem. being that it's the winter months, there's naturally going to be snow and ice and a dirt uphill slope will obviously turn to mud. not an ideal situation for loading and unloading supplies for our stay.
a rental this size would more likly be rented to a big group like ours. we saw 4 stalls and we brought 4 cars. i feel the owner should contract all 4 stalls to be plowed to eliminate any possible injuries to someone having to negociate the muddy/icy incline. we had a couple of slips but fortunately, no injuries.

Now, having said all this; the condo was comfortable and I would have liked to have stayed another week.

Also, I did not appreciate the fact that a discount was offered the morning after I made my reservations; but, the property company would not extend this discount to me; even though, we received the discount for an extra night we booked.

1. Oven was not functional; temp not controllable.
2. Vacuum suction not functional.
3. Coffee maker not functional.
4. One of the arms for a dining room chair was damaged (it looked like someone used tape to try and fix it....strange).
5. Bathroom door did not close upstairs.
6. Bathroom door downstairs does not lock.
7. Closet door in master bedroom was off the track (could not open or close).

However, right away we had some minor issues with the cleanliness. When we walked in it had an odor that we all couldn't agree upon. Some said "fishy". There was a lot of hair in one of the bathroom sinks, the kitchen floor was very dirty, the cookie sheets had been used but not washed...remnants of cookies... peanut butter, we think.
It snowed 22" overnight and the provided shovel was separated from it's handle, making it extremely difficult to dig out to our car to retrieve a "one-piece" shovel. In short, our "gripes" lie with the cleaning/maintenance service.
We also experienced a power outage in the house during our stay. Shaver Lake management was stellar in relocating us to other accommodations, (the O'Grady House"). Thank you for that!!
But a suggestion to the owners of #68. We could have used some illumination during the power outage. We understand the rarity of power failures and the hazards of having candles in a rental, however, when one cannot find one's way to or around the windowless bathrooms, even during the day, that, in itself, becomes a hazard. Our suggestion is having some battery powered lights available. We found 2 batteries and the top of a flashlight.

I also have to thank the ladies at Shaver Lake Rentals and the Maintenance Guy for taking the board off the children's room window. We called them that morning and when we got back to the condo that afternoon they had it off. The kids enjoyed their room much more after that.
Also the manager (Jeff?) cleaned the tennis courts for us and put up the nets, so enenthough we didn't have a pool, we enjoyed our stay and thought that everyone was very helpful, considerate, and nice.
Thanks so much,

I, however, expected it to be cleaner that how it was, considering that every renter pays a cleaning fee of $140. The bathroom sinks and floors should have been free of bugs and water stains (which come off with regular cleaners like Lysol disinfectant), and the deck with its tables and chairs free of dirt, dust, bugs, and fallen leaves.
The attic is a good place for the kids to stay in and entertain themselves, but was too warm for most of the day, despite having all windows open all throughout the week-end, and starts to cool down only towards dawn. An airconditioner would have made it more comfortable. The electric fan brought by the rental company personnel did help only when the room started getting cooler in the early morning.
Two of the remote controls for the TVs were not working despite changing the batteries.

The little "Mozdir" A-frame is cute
and perfect for a couple with two young kids. The price is right... However, there were some serious issues:
1. The heater flue was broken and I had to rig a temporary clamp to keep the heater and house from burning up
with smoke and maybe fire..
2. The kitchen was clean on the surface, but could use some "deep" cleaning or new lining in the cupboards and
drawers. Also, the oven-floor-carpet-linoleum area had nails sticking up to cut feet, and it did.
3. The two recliners are old, dirty and a real eye-sore in a such a tiny living room area. The L-shaped sofa is
nice and plenty large for 4 or 5 people. You should get rid of these funky bulky recliners which we had to move
every day to get to dining table. The table eating mats were dirty and sticky. (yuck, get rid of them..)
4. The VCR did not function. I am an electrical engineer and could not get it to work. Sorry... we watched a movie
on our laptop.
5. There was no way enough kindling, so we bought some at the hardware store. ($10!) There was also no soap
to do dishes, and we were not informed of that. (Dishwash machine soap was provided, but no washer. No prob.)
6. The shower curtain was a bit moldy, and is too large and dark for the small shower stall. A clear or white,
narrower one would be much cheerier. The washable fabric ones are nice, like in a hotel. (It would not cost you
much.)
7. One of the neighbors I borrowed an axe from, said that the C.B. "cleaning lady" just flys through there "in the
front and out the back in 5 minutes" and does not spend time cleaning. It shows folks.
8. I cleaned the iron hand rail to the upstairs. It was so grimey that our hands had black grease on them. We also
suggest a SIGN, or some WARNING for how terribly STEEP the MOZD stairs are.. It's ok for adults, but not for
kids or older people without a lot of supervision. (FYI.. a serious liability, no?) Reviewed by skindeeptattoos1 its a nice home but there was an infestation of large

Contract was straight forward. The price of the rental seemed good for the size (to accommodate our large family). Check in was easy and maps were clear. Office staff was friendly and helpful.
The cabin itself was spacious and nice at first glance. The layout was great and spacious. Once we were unpacked, the ants invaded the kitchen, so we could not set any food on the counters. It was a challenge finding spots to put it that would not get ants! There was a leak under the sink. Decks were covered with dust and pollen. I would think that cleaning with a blower and/or hosing it off would have removed most of that. The advertised "third" deck upstairs was unusable, with plywood, leaves and dirt covering it. The loft had spider webs and a black widow spider was found near the mattresses. The mattresses themselves had spots and stains on them (???) Even with a sheet covering them, what were we sleeping on? The steps up to the loft were creaky and a bit precarious.
What appeared to be a reasonable rate at time of booking felt like an overcharge for what we received after the stay was complete. I think the owners could clean things up a bit more if it continues to be advertised as posted. I would not recommend this rental in its current condition as posted!
Recommendations:
1. Regular spray for ants. We battled these in our own home in the valley and a regular service was what finally got rid of them.
2. Get third deck cleaned up. Clean others before rental.
3. Minor repairs, ie. leak under sink, DVD players.
4. Spray inside for spiders. A simple, people-friendly spray around the baseboards and under beds on a monthly basis would probably do it. A thorough vacuuming of the area before a rental stay begins would also take care of this.

Reviewed by lmcdunna The place was really nice and easily within walking distance from town. The two issues we had were: 1) there was virtually no hot water pressure at all. It just trickled out of the sink and shower head. This was a real drag for everyone in the family.
2) there was an inch of solid ice on the steps leading up to the front. I can understand some recent snow of course, but the ice was very dangerous and both my kids fell down (not seriously hurt thankfully). However, my first 2 hours after arriving was spent chipping ice off the stairs. THis is a real safety issue and I'm surprised that it wasn't salted/cleared when the cabin was preped for our arrival.

The cabin was beautiful, although buried in so much snow it was hard to
see much of the outside. We ran into some issues with icey patches too,
often got stuck in small places and had to use chains to get out. It hadn't
snowed in a week or more either, but it was cold enough that all the snow
was icey and slushy.
There was only enough room dug out for one car even though the website
said two which was kind of annoying since we had two cars. We were
worried about the ice on the steps too, it was pretty scary thick and
slippery. We have a 2.5 year old so we had to really watch to make sure she
didn't try to go down by herself. But it was really cozy inside with christmas
lights strung up around the fireplace and in some of the trees in the yard.
There was plenty of room for all of us, 4 adults and 3 small kids. We spent a
good deal of time in the kitchen around the table. Loved the additional
folding chairs and card table. The kitchen was clean, modern enough and
well stocked. Though the can opener would have needed a rocket scientist!
I'd bring your own. We didn't get linen service but noticed there were still
some towels and linens in place. There were also trash bags, dish soap,
hand soap, and lots of toilet paper.
I'd bring your own pantry items and food. Shaver Lake is adorable, and the
pizza place and chunky bread were both delicious, but the markets were all
that had groceries and they were limited and expensive.
The "snow park setting" across the street was just ok. I could see how in
fresh snow it would be a blast. We didn't enjoy it too much though, it was
too deep to walk in and exhausted us. Also it was too icey for snowmen or
snow balls. But down the road there was a beautiful place to sled next to
the lake, we had a good time there for a day. Gosh, it was gorgeous!! Reviewed by jason.rider 4 Adults and 1 child stayed at this cabin for 4 nights and 5 days. The cabin was great. There was a snow park across the street with easy access to sled runs. It was very cozy, nice fireplace, and overall a very good feel. The sleeping situation was questionable. The downstairs bed was great but the upstairs full size bed was a joke and after 4 days it caused an aching back. I would recommend the cabin for two adults but not for four adults because of the uncomfortable "bed".
As far as service, I would say that was pretty disappointing. An expensive electronic item of ours was left at the cabin and I called as soon as I got home (same day) to ask them to get the item from the cabin so we could make arrangements to get the item back. Initially they sounded helpful and told me they would go to the cabin, get the item, and mail it back. They said they would call me back to let me know what they had found. Nothing like that ever happened. Over the course of 11 days, I called back 5 times and each time I was told they would look into it and call me back. I NEVER RECEIVED ONE CALL BACK to let me know what was going on. After 11 days, I spoke to the manager and was told that the item was never found. VERY DISAPPOINTING! Because of this poor show of customer service the entire experience was soured and I was left to repurchase my item. That alone was enough to cause me to use another management company to rent my cabin through for Christmas 2010. It was not any fault of theirs that I left the item behind, just a bad taste left in my mouth from the horrible experience of trying to get it back.
Overall, for a small family the cabin is in a beautiful setting and provides easy snow access and sled runs. Personally, that was overshadowed by the poor sleep and bad customer service.

We encouraged Slvr to re-read the agreed upon FaS advertisement. We had 3 bundles of firewood delivered the next day.
The outside deck was flithy when we arrived (dirt/pine needles); Slvr did clean up after we insisted.
The power strip in the living room was a potential fire hazard. We advised Slvr the TV and base heater blows when both are turned on at the same time. Slvr's solution was to re-route the base heater cord over the mudroom threshold, so we could trip and fracture something.
We kept the heater off.
