A Look Back At The China Sun Summer Music Series - Labor Day Weekend 2011
September 24, 2011
This summer, within the setting of the tall pines and the quiet motor houses of the China Peak chair lifts, China Peak produced two major concert events known as the China Sun Summer Music Series. The second of the season took place on Labor Day weekend and featured great music from local valley favorites Shockwave along with surf music from the legendary Papa Do Run Run. Wrapping up the day long music festival was a band that's no stranger to China Peak. Pablo Cruise who had great hit songs in the 70's like "A Place In The Sun", "I Go To Rio" and "Love Will Find Away." Amongst the Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses, vacationers enjoyed sampling ten flavors of micro brews and tasted local favorites of chili. A repeat afternoon of a concert that featured Pablo and Papa 34 years before in 1977 on the grounds of China Peak. Once again, it was a perfect Peak summer day in the sun. Not to mention, a conga line that kicked up a mountain dust storm that could be seen from the boaters on the west end of Huntington Lake.
Although sitting in your lawn chairs wearing your flip flops, it was hard to look up towards great ski runs like Razorback and The China Peak Face and realize ski season is still three months away. If I break out my skis now, will the snow fly any sooner? Unfortunately not, but there's still plenty of the fall season left to enjoy the beauty of the mountain scenery of Shaver Lake & Huntington Lake. COME PLAY!!!
