Sierra Voices with Jeff Young

July 10, 2011

Jeff Young spoke at the Central Sierra Historical Society In Shaver Lake on July 9th.  The fascinating topic was From Forest To Mill:  The Story Within A Hundred Year Old Sinker Log

Jeff Young, a long time Shaver Lake resident and Timber-man, discussed how he locates and raises from the depths of Shaver Lake - "Sinker Logs".  These logs contain historical and cultural secrets about Shaver Lake and surrounding regions.

The Central Sierra Historical Society hosts a guest speaker for their Sierra Voices series each month.  Visit their website to review this Summers Calendar of Events.  www.sierrahistorical.org

Jeff Young's Sinker Logs Presentation

I was so facinated with the sinker log and the history behind it. Jeff Young looked and made you feel as if you were right there in the collection of these rare finds. The heartache and euphoria that these men experienced is really facinating. His 'labor of love' for recovering these old logs is so appreciated and the museum is full of furniture and paneling that showcases the beautiful wood. His educational aspect was fun and I am looking forward to another presentation so I can learn even more about this type of life.
